You get off at either Montserrat-Aeri station (if you want to take the cable car) or Monistrol de Montserrat if you prefer the rack railway. But that’s all part of the Montserrat experience. We were surprised by how large the monastery is during our visit. It’s like a small village in the middle of the mountains. The walk from the cable car to the monastery gives you a good impression of what makes Montserrat Monastery so special. I was personally truly impressed by the enormous rocks that rise right next to the monastery, reaching high into the sky.

2. La Moreneta (The Black Madonna) : La Moreneta, the Black Madonna of Montserrat, is the symbol of the monastery and one of the most famous Marian statues in Spain. The wooden statue, covered in gold, is approximately 95 cm tall. It depicts the Virgin Mary with the Christ Child. Its name, “La Moreneta,” means “the Little Black One” and refers to the statue’s dark color. The Madonna is located in the sanctuary of the Basilica of Montserrat.
