Where to park at Montserrat Monastery?

To visit the Montserrat Monastery , there are three central parking lots available:

1. Montserrat Monastery Parking lot at the top near the monastery complex

Parking directly at Montserrat Monastery : For those arriving by car, the parking lot on the mountain near the monastery is the best option. This allows you to reach the monastery complex, including the basilica, Black Madonna, and museum, on foot from the parking lot without using a cable car. However, please note that the parking lot is expensive , and there are two parking options at the monastery. Approximately 2 kilometers before the actual monastery, there is a barrier gate directly on the public road . You must take a parking ticket here – otherwise, you will not be able to pass through the barrier. The large parking lot begins immediately beyond the barrier. Parking spaces are located to the left and right of the road. If you park your car in the above-ground spaces here, you pay the parking fee as posted at the barrier gate.

Montserrat monastery Parking fees
Please note that parking fees apply:
Motorcycles: Up to 30 minutes free, then €3.50 per day.
Cars: Up to 30 minutes free, then €7.00 per day.
Buses: Up to 30 minutes €40.00, then €80.00 per day.
These are the Montserrat Monastery parking fees as of our visit; no guarantee of accuracy.

Behind the surface parking spaces along the street, there is also a parking garage. These spaces are closer to the monastery and are the only alternative if the other parking areas are already full.  Please note: If you enter the parking garage at the roundabout at the end of the surface parking area, it will be even more expensive. Keep this in mind when looking for a parking space.

You should also be aware that parking is limited. On sunny days during peak season, the parking lot can fill up quickly – even though the Montserrat Monastery parking lot has 1,000 spaces. It’s recommended to arrive early or in the late afternoon to secure a parking spot. Even during the off-season, it’s often difficult to find a free parking space around midday.
